It is Christmas Eve 2011, and I am lonely. Last year (2010) I had my son with me, so Ian snuggled the whole day since he had a fever. My mini-me midget is with his mother this year. Only a mile away, but it might as well be a hundred or thousand.
When we married in 2007, I never expected to be single for the holidays again. In 2008, though, my wife went to say goodbye to her dying grandmother in Canada while I drove to rescue her brothers who were stranded after a wreck at the Grand Canyon. Then employment fell through for me in 2009, and she divorced me, leaving the church, too.
I confess mistakes I made: requesting an improper consolation after being disqualified from commission by a doctor's error, lascivious thinking, neglecting my classwork to spend time with a girl, failing to heed divine counsel, bragging, and so forth. Having been compelled to be humble and rely on the Lord, I will end this note to return to seek His companionship. There is no need for me to be alone now or ever.

A young lady in Indiana complimented me on the honesty of this post and expressed a hope that I did not remain alone for the holidays; first off, thanks.
Second, no, I was not alone on the 25th (the next day). My ex allowed me to go over in the morning to watch my boy open presents, the only exception non-court-ordered exception for the year. When he did not want to open anything else until the gummy bear bag (I brought) was empty, we played catch until it was time to kick me out. After church, I spent the afternoon with my bishop's family.
